Why I Haven’t Blogged In Like A Year

Back in the Summer of 2011 I was still publishing regular updates to my little blog over here and somewhere along the way, like many small time bloggers, I lost my way. Ironically enough it wasn’t because I had nothing useful to say or contribute to those finding my pages. It was for much less significant purposes.

When I started publishing articles I was kind of first trying to find an area where I could link back to my own info whenever I left a comment on the web. Sort of like spreading your own obnoxious views via clickbacks. Then after a while it was pretty funny when I was out at conferences for internet marketing (which has become to prime topic of my blog), people started coming up to me. They would approach me and be like “Oh I recognize you, you wrote this thing that really stuck in my head”. These small nuances of feeling like you helped or inspires someone really gave me a good feeling. I definitely wanted more of this, to contribute more, to help more.

Then at one point a friend convinced me to offer some advertising on my blog. I threw up a few ad spots and quickly had them all filled and pretty soon was generating some regular profits from the ad revenue. I think my highest was almost $1200 in one month. Not bad from a guy who hadn’t updated his blog in 3 months at the time.

Now seeing that there is some mild level of easy income when you have an audience, but not wanting to completely sell out, I decided I did want to keep investing in my blog. It seemed though everyday when I looked at it I was discouraged. I started doing the usual, making excuses why I wasn’t progressing it. My biggest issues wasn’t content, but the look of it. I kept thinking I really wanted to build MikeChiasson.com as a brand to represent myself and to invest any effort into publishing on it until it looked great was a waste of time.

I decided I needed a few things.

A New Logo

Ironically enough I have a degree in Graphic Design but I really don’t enjoy utilizing those skills that much for my own purposes. I guess this can be equated to the car mechanic who always has the crappy car but can fix everyone elses.

My old logo was basically text I whipped up 3+ years ago and colored it similar to my old WordPress theme colors. It had to go.

Ultimately I launched a contest on LogoMyWay.com to come up with a new logo. I wasn’t really happy with the outcome but I worked with the designer afterwards and then personally tweaked things to get them to be acceptable (FOR NOW!). My new logo was a very obnoxious combination of some of my favorite things, like money & gambling!

A New WordPress Theme

I started playing with DIY Themes Thesis Framework well over a year ago and finally over this past week got around to touching the theme up to something I can accept. I still think this has a long way to go but I’m happy with it for now. To be honest the design is pretty boiler plate but its fun getting to say you made it. Of course I do run a 99% identical design on every other page I run off Thesis for wordpress.

The old theme was dark & ugly and I just wanted something a little more personal.

That’s It

So yeap I hadn’t much in the last 18 months because I wanted a new Logo and to update my theme. How is that for the ultimate of lazy excuses? I already have some decent content cued up here or rehashed from forums like Aff Playbook that I plan on released for anyone to enjoy/send hate mail.

Welcome back fellow mass-hole. I only visit blogs for the quality of the template & logo….not the content. So no worries on being MIA
